Susan Tiger—It is not a goodbye said to one’s father at Gallery Joe
Philadelphia, PA—Gallery Joe is pleased to announce the first solo show at the gallery by Susan Tiger. It is not a goodbye said to one’s father opens in the Vault Gallery on Saturday, January 12, 2008 and continues through February 23, 2008. This exhibition runs concurrently with a solo show of drawings by Emily Brown in the Front Gallery.
Tiger will exhibit 16 small drawings consisting mainly of acrylic paint and graphite on watercolor paper. It is not a goodbye said to one’s father features intimate drawings of various objects, which recount the artist’s personal experiences and memories. Simple, yet meaningful images work together with their poetic titles forming an evocative narrative. Images appear to float on the white sheets of paper and instill a sense of quietude as the viewer encounters each of these works.
Recent exhibitions include Singing the Real, Contemporary Art from Ireland at the Iziko South African National Gallery in Cape Town, South Africa, The Square Root of Drawing at the Temple Bar Gallery and Studios in Dublin, Ireland, and some painting at Galerie Paul Andriesse, Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her works are included in the collections of the Iziko South African National Gallery, Cape Town, South Africa and the Weatherspoon Art Museum, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, NC. In 2003 she published Having, a book for The Coombe Women’s Hospital in Dublin Ireland, featuring drawings, text, and poetry by the artist. Tiger was born and raised in Philadelphia. In 1998 she moved to Ireland where she now lives with her husband and seven year old daughter.
