Gravity
Harry Roseman at Gallery Joe
Philadelphia - Gallery Joe is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by Harry Roseman. Photographs, drawings and sculpture comprise this show titled Gravity. Roseman’s works will occupy the Front Gallery while Lynne Clibanoff’s smaller constructions will appear in the Vault Gallery. Both shows open on First Friday, February 1 and run through March 8, 2002.
Roseman has recently completed an ambitious three-year project at the International Arrival Building at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York where he has created 30 large white gypsum reliefs depicting drapery in action. Drawings and maquettes in Gravity are evidence of the scale and complexity of Roseman’s achievement. The expressiveness of drapery is at the core of Roseman’s work. For him, drapery comes alive telling stories strange, funny, and sad.
After graduating from Pratt Institute, Roseman worked for two years as an assistant to Joseph Cornell. For the past 20 years he has taught at Vassar College where he has just been awarded a full professorship. Roseman’s work is shown widely in the United States, most recently at the Menil Collection in Houston, Texas and Davis & Langedale Companies in New York.
Among the many public and private collections in which Roseman’s work appears are the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Walker Art Center, The Cincinnati Museum of Art, and the Achenbach Foundation for the Graphic Arts in San Francisco. Major public commissions include a 42ft.bronze mural in the Wall Street subway station in Manhattan and 4 Houses at Rockland Community College in upstate, NY
