MARY JUDGE – AT GALLERY JOE

Philadelphia, PA – Gallery Joe is pleased to open the fall season with a solo show of drawings by Mary Judge. Recent Works opens on First Friday, September 7 and continues through October 13, 2001.

Recent Works is Mary Judge’s first solo show at Gallery Joe. Included are several large-scale drawings, marking a new direction for Judge. Measuring 64 x 45 inches these new drawings are executed on canvas and are much larger than previous works. Judge continues to develop the ancient method of Spolvero, which involves the technique of pouncing pigment through tiny perforations. However, in these drawings Judge breaks away from strictly concentric imagery to create undulating fields in blue and gray. In addition, Judge will also show several brand new works on paper.

This fall is a very busy one for Judge. Recent Works will run concurrently with two major museum exhibitions. In mid-September she opens a solo show in the Morris Gallery at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and later in the month the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC hosts a two person show with Mary Judge and the Dumbacher twins.

Her drawings are included in the public collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Harvard University Fogg Art Museum, Cambridge, MA, The British Museum and The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England.
